Soccer’s sorest loser

I’ve heard about people that would do nearly anything for a win but this guy takes the cake:

Self-inflicted razor-blade cut
Chilean goalkeeper Roberto Antonio “Cóndor” Rojas Saavedra deliberately slashed himself with a razor-blade mid-game in an attempt to avoid losing against Brazil in the qualifier for the 1990 World Cup. Rojas fell to the pitch writhing and holding his forehead. A firework, thrown from the stands by a Brazilian fan, was smoldering on the field nearby. Rojas, his head bloodied, was carried off the field, and his teammates refused to return to play, claiming conditions were unsafe.

Video evidence later showed that Rojas had not been hit by the firework. His head injury was discovered to have been self-inflicted with a razor blade hidden in his glove. FIFA awarded Brazil a 2-0 win, eliminating Chile from the 1990 World Cup. Chile was also banned from the 1994 World Cup and Rojas received a lifetime ban (lifted in 2001).
