Please don’t overbraai my steak

I don’t know all the deadly sins but overbraaing your steak must be included on this list.

You put in some time, effort and a few bucks to buy a decent size and quality steak. You are looking forward to this meal and then the braaier decides to braai it over well done (overdone).

You expected a nice, juicy piece of steak but you get a chargrill flavoured piece that taste just like cardboard. Siesa!

And remember disappointment is a function of expectation. So the more you expected, the more disappointed you will be.

So, to the braaiers out there. Please focus when braaing steak and don’t overcook it.

PS: Here is a tip I picked-up about seasoning a streak:

When grilling your favourite steak, always season it with salt and pepper before putting it on the grill. Some chefs say that the salt will start to cure the meat by bringing the juices out before it’s cooked.

This is true, but only to a certain extent. It takes hours for this process to cause any noticeable effect. Give your steak a generous seasoning with salt and pepper about 30 minutes before you grill it and you will have a nicely seasoned steak when all is said and done.
